To children and young people in Bristol with social workers.

What did the inspectors find?

  • Bristol leaders are ambitious for you and put you at the centre of their work. The council, and its partners work well together to keep improving the support and help you need.
  • Social workers like working in Bristol. This is because of the training and support.
  • If you are at risk of harm, social workers and other professionals work together to make sure you are safe and get the right help quickly.
  • The staff work hard to make sure you have a say in what happens to you and to help you to understand why you have a social worker.
  • Social workers and their managers need to better explain the reasons for decisions.
  • If you can’t live with your family, social workers work to find the right place for you to live. If it is right for you, they will arrange for you to still see your family and friends.
  • You get the support you need to be healthy and enjoy learning.
  • The council has worked hard to make sure that children with disabilities and care leavers have better support then they did at the last Ofsted inspection in 2014.
  • Inspectors can see that care leavers have good relationships with personal advisers but your pathway plans are not always clear enough.
  • Some care leavers do not always have all the skills they need to live independently. The council is working on improving that for you.

Yours sincerely

Joy Howick

Her Majesty’s Inspector (Ofsted)
