Hello everyone ! :)

My name is Roxy, and i'm 17 (almost 18!!) and i'm joining the CiCC blog showing my journey through 'participating' with R Voice and similar projects :) I'm hopefully going to explain what I'm doing, and how easy and fun it is to participate! On monday i met with James and soon discovered we had a lot in common. Although i've been in the care sector since about December, i wasn't able to get involved until after my A level exams had finished. The back of the R Voice magazine suggested i 'participate' and see if i can make someone's life a bit better- and you'll have to excuse the cheesiness but that's the only thing i've ever been certain of: that i want to help people and make a difference. ;)

I met James in a cafe near my house and as soon as james ordered a lollypop with his coffee, i realised this was going to be the kind of meeting i would enjoy. We share a passion for helping people, and also for acting (he's a drama teacher). We talked about loads of stuff but one thing he said stuck with me, that maybe I would like to create and form my own drama group which could be filled with care leavers or those young people in care. I'm not entirely sure whether this was a positive thing though as it is honestly the only thing i've been able to think about for the last 24 hours. I'm so excited; and I blame James! This idea is developing, but will be on hold until I receive my results in August! (very nervous!)

We also spoke about me maybe joining the Children in Care Council or the care leaver's council - which is a group of people basically making people more aware of what we, as young people in care, or care leavers, want or need changing about the process of care, and everything in it. After all, they're not going to change it if we don't tell them anything, right? I'm hopefully meeting everyone next week and will let you know how it goes! :)

We also spoke about the 'In our Shoes' Programme, you can find a video link on the home page of this website, have a look! I'm excited because i'm hopefully going to be trained up to help with this amazing project - its all about making workers see things from the point of view of a child in care.

So, overall 'participate' sounds like something that really suits me - yes, even though i've only had one (very fun and laid back) meeting!!  Hopefully going to write another blog sometime soon maybe after i've met the Children in Care Council and I'll let you know what i'm doing next!! :)

Roxy :)
