The virtual school for children in care has a name!
You might remember that a little while ago we ran a competition to ‘Name the virtual school’. Thank you to everyone who took part; you had some really good ideas and it was hard to choose just one.
The virtual school council met last week and voted to choose a name. And the winner is… The Hope Academy.
So, The Hope Academy is our new name. I like to think that it stands for Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally and that makes it a great choice as the virtual school is all about trying to help you with your education.
The first Hope Academy Council meeting
I promised to tell you how the first Hope Academy Council meeting went. We finally got to meet in the February half-term (the snow in December meant we had to put the meeting back). 14 young people came to the first meeting and we talked a lot about what kind of things the Academy Council can do, how we should meet (e.g. by email or face to face), how often and when we should meet. Thank you very much to everyone who came to the first meeting – it was really good to see you all and hear your ideas.
We agreed that face to face meetings are best and that we will do an activity at our next meeting – maybe something to do with art. One of the most popular things the young people who came to the first meeting thought we should discuss at a future meeting is to decide what make school good for a child in care. We’re now planning the next meeting.
It’s not too late if you think you might like to be on The Hope Academy Council; you can let us know by taking part in the online survey – find out about the survey below.
The Hope Academy online survey
The second online survey is now live and we really want all of our pupils in Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 to complete it this year. We learned so many important things from you last year, so please take part. Ask your designated teacher for children in care in your real school about the survey – he or she will have your log in. We hope to hear from all of you, but be quick because the survey is happening in Term 4 which is March 2011.
