Bullying often starts when
people pick on something about you that's different.
It could be how big you are, the colour of your skin, or hair, or how you're doing at school.
But no two people are the same, not even identical twins - and that's why bullying is so stupid.
Also, cyberbullying, which is bullying using modern electronic stuff like mobile phones and computers is becoming more and more common. People are sometimes being bullied by text message or by prank calling, or on MSN. Bullying sometimes happens on social networking sites like Bebo, Myspace or Facebook and is becoming more and more of a problem particularly as a lot of older adults don't really understand how these websites work.
If you are being bullied then there is lots of help out there. The first thing to do is tell someone that you are being bullied. This could be a teacher, your foster carer or social worker, or anyone else you trust. Bullying is totally unfair and no one has the right to make you feel sad and unhappy. But in order to get help, you need to tell someone! Bottling things up is really bad for you and can lead to problems like mood swings and in some extreme cases self harm. There have even been cases where young people have killed themselves because they are being bullied and that is something that nobody wants. So please, if you are being bullied take the first step and tell someone.
