Trish Hudson

Hi Trish. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?  How long have you been a social worker for?

I have over 20 years experience of working in statutory Childcare. I have had experience of working in the Voluntary Sector in Bristol, in both Children and Women’s Health Organisations. I Qualified as a Social Worker in 1989, and Qualified as an Approved Social Worker (under the Mental Health Act), in 1993. I have worked mainly for Bristol City Council as a Childcare Social Worker and Team Manager but have also worked as a Senior Practitioner in Wiltshire County Council’s Emergency Duty Team for 4.5 years; for North Somerset County Council as a Social Worker for Deaf Children and Families for a year; and a year for the NHS setting up a Counselling Service within a cluster of GP practices.  I have experience of Managing Duty and Community Teams for Bristol City Council and was an IRO for a year before becoming a Children in Care Team Manager in October, 2007. I have been a supporter of Post Qualifying training.

Why did you want to join the Social Work Practice?

I decided I wanted to be involved in Bristol City Council’s pilot to set up a Social Work Practice as I believe this is an opportunity to be part of reclaiming Professional Social Work and empowering Social Workers to do this. It is also an opportunity to deliver a service that has Children at the centre with their views and experiences shaping the service with closer Partnership working with Carers and the range of agencies that work with Looked after Children, their carers and family.

Do you have any particular areas of interest in terms of the services provided to children and young people in care?

I have a particular interest in the emotional Well-Being of Looked after Children and Young People, their carers and that of the professionals who work with them; Systems Thinking to improve Service Delivery and outcomes in organisations; and Social Work Post Qualifying training.
